Question: "What is the story of David and Bathsheba?" Answer: The story of David and Bathsheba is one of the most dramatic accounts in the Old Testament. One night in Jerusalem, King David was walking upon his rooftop when he spotted a beautiful woman bathing near (2 Samuel 11:2). This sequence of events and its accompanying tragedies is the subject of chapters 11 and 12 of 2 Samuel. I have chosen to expound these chapters in three lessons. This first lesson will deal with “David and Bathsheba,” as described in 11:1-4. David and Bathsheba Gregory Peck Through Bathsheba’s story, we discover that God can bring good out of the ashes of sin. Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, was born into this world through the bloodline of Bathsheba and King David. We don’t know if Bathsheba was a willing accomplice or just the victim in her adulterous affair with David. David and Bathsheba is a respectable, slightly stodgy cinematic adaptation of the Old Testament story. King David (Gregory Peck), much beloved his subjects and a war hero of long standing David and Bathsheba is a 1951 historical Technicolor epic film about King David made 20th Century Fox.It was directed Henry King, produced Darryl F. Gregory Peck stars as King David and the film follows King David's life as he adjusts to ruling as a King, and about his relationship with Uriah's wife David is a heroic figure in the Hebrew Bible: a handsome, brave, and talented warrior-king who receives special favor from God. At the same time, David’s characterization in biblical narrative is ambivalent, emphasizing his flaws as well as his virtues. The story of his interactions with Bathsheba and Uriah is one such account of David’s moral failings. David and Diana Garland argue that, "Taking remarkable license with the story, the screen writers changed Bathsheba from the one who is ogled David into David's stalker." They go on to suggest that "the movie David and Bathsheba, written, directed and produced males, makes the cinematic Bathsheba conform to male fantasies about women. Bathsheba was a daughter of Eliam and was probably of noble birth. A beautiful woman, she became pregnant after David saw her bathing on a rooftop and had her brought to him. David then ordered that Uriah be moved to the front-line of a battle, where he was killed. Question: "Why did God punish David and Bathsheba’s innocent child with death? Why didn’t He put David to death instead?" Answer: In 2 Samuel 12, the prophet Nathan confronts David concerning his sin with Bathsheba and pronounces a judgment against David. Sadly, that judgment included the death of David and Bathsheba’s infant son (verse 14). The fact that an innocent child dies—instead David comforted Bathsheba and she had another ba boy and they named him Solomon. He will be the next king after David. David committed a sin taking another man’s wife and treating her as his wife. Later Bathsheba found out that she was going to have a child. She sent a messenger to David to let him know she was going to have his child. (David’s sin was going to cause problems.) David’s plan Joseph, the husband of Mary was from the lineage of Solomon, son born of David and Bathsheba (Matthew 1:6) and Mary, virgin wife of Joseph, was a direct descendent of Nathan, son also born of David and Bathsheba (Luke 3:31). He understood God's mercy, grace, and loving kindness. Who could deny that after reading the Psalms? But how do we explain the tragic events involving David, Bathsheba, and her loyal husband Uriah? What can we learn about ourselves in this dark narrative in the Bible? Considering this account in this message, Dr. Sproul reminds us of David 2 Samuel 11 New International Version (NIV) David and Bathsheba. 11 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army.
